A carnivorous plant

Hérault has such a variety and diversity of ecosystems that there are plenty of surprises to discover.

Strange as it may seem, there is a plant in Haut-Languedoc that's carnivorous.

Yes, it’s true. The sundew, a small carnivorous plant, grows in the middle of our peat bogs. In these poor, acidic conditions, plants had to develop survival strategies in order to find the food resources that were lacking. The plant is nationally protected and listed as a vulnerable species in the Red Book of threatened flora in France.
